For 2027 you can have it in three constructions, and choosing between them is mostly a question of how stiff and light you want the frame to be, and what you're prepared to pay for that.

New for 2027: Duotone has adapted the Aluula D/TX layup for faster response and a higher usable top end, refined the profile for a more direct steering response, and describes the handling as "more playful and engaging" than before, with improved comfort at the top of the range.
In Duotone's construction comparison the D/LAB scores highest on weight saving and is credited with the most responsive turning, the biggest wind range (light construction plus a stiff frame) and the highest power generation and acceleration. Their own caveat is worth quoting: the performance gains of a D/LAB "are especially evident in medium to larger sizes, where reactivity and weight are substantial factors." In the small sizes, they say the Original's forgiving Dacron frame absorbs gusts better.
Evo SLS 2027 — the high-performance all-rounder

New for 2027: higher structural stiffness, with the performance tuned around the new higher inflation pressures; a new canopy profile for more progressive bar pressure; an optimised tip-to-canopy connection for cleaner airflow; and the Flex Strut has been removed in favour of thinner, significantly stiffer struts. Duotone says the reduced deformation under load gives faster turning, cleaner loops and more precise feedback when you're riding hard.
In the construction comparison, the SLS gets the most aggressive power development (down to the stiff PentaTX frame), is rated highly responsive, and — Duotone's words — has the "best price to performance ratio". It sits between the Original and the D/LAB on weight.

Duotone lists it for all riding levels, and its own brochure makes the point that the smaller Evo sizes "offer incredible performance in strong winds, absorbing gusts and providing superior comfort due to the more forgiving flex properties of the inflated Dacron structure."

Read across a row and you can see the D/LAB's advantage in numbers: a 9 m D/LAB is rated 13–35 knots against 15–33 for the Original — two knots earlier at the bottom, two knots more at the top. That's the "biggest wind range" claim, and it's where the lighter, stiffer frame shows. The SLS sits neatly in between.
Pump pressures — they're different, and it matters
This is the change most likely to catch people out in 2027. The three constructions want three different pressures, and the SLS wants a different pressure depending on size:
- Evo (Original): 7 psi
- Evo SLS: 9 psi for 10 m and smaller, 8 psi for 11 m and larger
- Evo D/LAB: 10 psi
Duotone's advice is to check the pressure printed on the valve protection patch on your kite before you pump. The stiffer frames are designed around the higher pressures — the SLS's 2027 performance is explicitly "pressure-enabled" — so an under-pumped SLS or D/LAB won't fly the way it was designed to. For 2027 the Click Bar comes as S (20 m + 2 m extensions) or M (22 m + 2 m), drops the front-line stopper ball, and now ships with the Low V distributor in the box rather than fitted. Which one for Whitstable and the north Kent coast?
This is our recommendation, not Duotone's. It's based on the specs above and what we know about riding here — see our guide to The Street, Long Rock and Seasalter for the conditions.
Sizes first. Most locals run a 12, 9 and 7, or a 10, 8 and 6 if they're lighter. Look at those sizes in the wind-range table and any of the three constructions covers the bulk of rideable days on this coast — so the construction choice is about feel and budget, not about whether you'll get on the water.
The Original is the sensible default. It's the kite Duotone lists for all levels, it's the most durable of the three, and its forgiving Dacron frame is the one Duotone itself says absorbs gusts best — useful when the wind's coming over the land with south in it. Because it's a carry-over, you can also buy it knowing exactly what you're getting. Our advice for anyone still progressing: this one, and a good bar.
The SLS if you want more kite for the money. Stiffer, more direct, more aggressive power delivery, and Duotone's own "best price to performance" pick. The 2027 changes — Flex Strut gone, higher pressures, new canopy profile — are aimed at riders who load the kite hard in loops and jumps. If that's you and the D/LAB price makes you wince, this is the one. The Concept Blue version is the same kite if you'd rather buy undyed.
The D/LAB if you'll use the range. Two knots more at each end of every size adds up over a season, and it's most noticeable in the 10–13 m sizes, which is exactly what Duotone says. On the flat water behind The Street on a marginal day, a 12 m D/LAB that's rated from 9 knots is the difference between riding and watching. If you're in the water several times a week and the budget's there, it's the best Evo. If it's a few sessions a month, the SLS is the better-value buy.
